First up is our dear friend, Nicole Kaney, owner of NK Productions. Nicole is one of the busiest ladies we know – she and her team plan over 75 weddings per year! With 13 years of experience in the planning industry, Nicole’s mission is to direct every detail of a wedding with creative flair and unparalleled service.

Tell us a little about yourself and NK Productions?
I grew up in Sarasota and love living in my hometown. We have a little girl named Estella who is the light of our lives.
How did you get started in the wedding and event planning profession?
In college I opened a yoga studio that was very successful and that was my first taste of owning a business and planning events for my studio. I sold my business and moved back to Sarasota where I started working as the Marketing Director for Mattison’s Culinary Group. Chef Paul was a wonderful mentor and I was able to experience so many events and weddings working there. Then I was hired as the Marketing and Events Director to open the new Whole Foods Market in Sarasota. That too was such a great experience and I had so much freedom to dream up events such as fashion shows and culinary events. After that, I started my company and in nearly 10 years we have planned over 500 weddings! We have grown to a team of 7 planners and handle 75 weddings a year.
What is your favorite wedding venue in the Sarasota area?
That’s difficult to narrow down to just 1 because we have so many wonderful venues here! But I love the Ritz-Carlton, Ringling, Selby and Longboat Key Club.
What trends are you loving right now and what trends (if any) would you like to see disappear forever?
Trends I’m loving are all of the details such as custom bars, unique linens, and furniture. It’s just really about making each wedding so unique and custom. I could live without the mason jar look, although we rarely see that anymore.
What are you tips for our blushing brides that just got engaged and have no idea where to start in terms of the planning process?
I think it’s important to establish a budget then source your vendor team from there. We help our clients with these steps and taking care of one item then checking it off the list.
What is your favorite part of assisting a bride and her family plan their dream wedding?
I’m very grateful to have such amazing families we work with on planning their special days. It’s amazing to get to know everyone over the planning process and to see how much love there is for the bride and groom. My favorite part is the walk down the aisle. It gets me every time, especially now that I have a daughter!
Is there a particular thing a bride absolutely should not skimp on?
Good vendors. Your vendor team is the driving force behind your wedding day and turning your dream into reality. Especially a good team that will go above and beyond for you.
Let’s talk wedding attire: do you have a favorite bridal gown style/trend?
We had a few brides this last season with cap sleeves and I love how romantic that is. I’m also loving the more interesting styles with beautiful beadwork. I see many dresses at Blush Bridal I would love for our brides to wear!
How do you recommend couples personalize their wedding?
Lots of details! We talk a lot about the wedding day details: programs, signage, cocktail napkins, etc. There is just so many fun details available.
Is there a wedding or event that stands out as your most memorable to plan?
I have so many memoires of special touches or moments in weddings. It’s hard to pick an overall favorite but we have had some AMAZING weddings we have been involved in!
